Organisational Setup
The Board functions under the overall supervision of the Controlling Authority which is vested with the Secretary (School Education & Literacy), Ministry of Education, Government of India. The Board has various statutory committees which are advisory in nature. The Governing Body of the Board is constituted as per its rules and regulations. The recommendations of all the committees are placed for approval before the Governing Body of the Board.
Structure of the Board
The Chairperson is the Chief Executive of the Board and is assisted by fourteen Heads of Departments i.e. Secretary, Controller of Examinations, Director (Academics), Director (Training), Director (IT), Director (Misc. Examinations), Director (Edusat, Research & Development), Director (Skill Education), four Regional Directors, Director (Registered Office, Ajmer) and Director (Professional Examinations). The Secretary (School Education and Literacy), Ministry of Education, Government of India is the Controlling Authority of the Board and appoints the Chairman and other Heads of Departments.
The Secretary, CBSE is the Chief Administrative Officer and responsible for the matters relating to Administration, Audit and Accounts, Public Relations, Legal and grant of affiliation to schools.
The Controller of Examinations is responsible for all matters concerning examinations and administration of examinations, the major areas being pre and post examination work, co-ordination with Regional Offices for conducting annual and compartmental Secondary and Senior School Certificate Examinations.
The Director (IT) is responsible for all matters concerning pre and post examination activities of all regions, CTET, Publication Management System, Scholarship, Recruitment, Website all new IT ventures and projects.
The Director (Academics) is responsible for developing the curriculum for all the subjects at the Secondary and Senior Secondary levels, development of new courses content and innovations in the field of education, to publish text books for Secondary and Senior Secondary classes and monitoring the academic projects.
Director (Training) organizes teacher’s training workshops, assessing training needs capacity building programmes.
The Director (Skill Education) is responsible for all matters concerning designing of curriculum for Skill Education subjects.
Director (Professional Examinations) is responsible for all matters concerning conduct of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Selection Test.
The Director (Misc. Examinations) is responsible for conducting (CTET).
The Director (Edusat, Research & Development) is responsible for all matters concerning Distance Education through Education Satellite launched by Indian Space Research Organisation (I.S.R.O.)
The Director (Registered Office Ajmer) is responsible for the activities of Registered Office, Ajmer like issue of duplicate documents, verification, correction in Board’s documents etc.
The Regional Directors are responsible for all matters concerning conduct of Secondary and Senior Secondary certificate main and compartment examinations and administration of examinations, the major areas being pre and post examination work, declaration of its results and other related activities.
